Community Votes – Darling Reader
Darling Reader isn’t just a book database, it’s a community. That’s why every book on our site has an upvote and downvote feature, letting you help fellow readers decide what’s worth picking up next. Think of it like a recommendation from a friend, scaled across our entire reading community.
How does voting work?
Every book on Darling Reader has two small arrow buttons, an upvote and a downvote. On book list pages, you’ll find them on each book card. On individual book pages, you’ll see a larger “Recommend” and “Not for me” button.
To vote, simply click one of the arrows or buttons. That’s it, no account or sign-up needed.
What do the votes mean?
When you upvote a book, you’re telling other readers “I recommend this, it’s worth your time.” When you downvote, you’re saying “This one wasn’t for me.”
- The number between the arrows is the net community score, upvotes minus downvotes.
- A book with a score of 24 means 24 more readers recommended it than didn’t.
- A book sitting at 0 might be new or polarising. Either way, it gives you a real sense of what the community thinks before you commit to reading.
Can I change my vote?
Yes. If you upvoted a book and change your mind, just click the upvote arrow again to undo it. You can also switch from an upvote to a downvote (or vice versa) at any time by clicking the other arrow.
Can I vote more than once on the same book?
No, each visitor gets one vote per book. This keeps the scores fair and genuine. Your vote is remembered so you’ll see it highlighted when you come back to the page.
Do I need an account to vote?
No. Voting is completely anonymous and requires no sign-up, no email, and no login. We want the barrier to be as low as possible so more readers participate and the scores reflect genuine opinions.
How can I sort books by popularity?
On any book list page, use the “Sort” dropdown in the results bar and select “Most Popular.” This reorders the books by their community vote score, putting the most recommended books at the top. It’s a great way to discover what other readers are loving right now.
Why should I vote?
Because your opinion matters. Every vote helps shape what other readers discover next. The more people vote, the more useful the scores become for everyone. You might help someone find their next favourite book, or save them from a disappointing one.
Where can I see the most popular books?
Use the “Sort: Most Popular” option on any book list page to see the highest-rated books by community vote. Over time, as more readers vote, these rankings will become an increasingly accurate reflection of what the Darling Reader community genuinely loves.
