Ranking 10 Of My Favourite Freida McFadden Books

Hey there darlings! Freida McFadden is one of my absolute favourite authors so I’d thought I’d rank 10 of my favourite Freida thrillers. This is not my usual romance/fantasy content, but I am a sucker for a good psychological thriller, and thought some fo you might also appreciate some good thriller recommendations. The books are ranked from 1 (Most Liked) to 10 (Least Liked). Enjoy my ranking!

My Freida McFadden Books Ranking (Most To Least Liked)

  1. The Housemaid
  2. Ward D
  3. Never Lie
  4. The Boyfriend
  5. The Tenant
  6. The Intruder
  7. Dear Debbie
  8. The Surrogate Mother

1. The Housemaid’s Secret

Millie’s back, and honestly? She’s better than ever. This time she’s cleaning house for the wealthy, mysterious Garricks in their gorgeous Manhattan penthouse, except she never actually sees Mrs Garrick, who stays shut away behind a locked bedroom door.

The more Millie cleans, the more convinced she becomes that something is very, very wrong in that apartment. And you know our girl. She simply cannot leave it alone. Twisty, propulsive, and somehow even more addictive than the first.

My thoughts: The Housemaid’s Secret is my TOP number 1, which I think isn’t the most common choice, I’m pretty sure most people preferred book 1… But I don’t know you guys, there was just something about this book I loved more than The Housemaid. I think I found the plot twists in this one to be more unexpected. I did read this quite a while ago, but I do remeber absolutely devouring all in one night, it was THAT good!

2. The Housemaid

The one that started the whole obsession, darlings. Millie is fresh out of a rough past and desperate for a fresh start when she lands a live-in maid job with the picture-perfect Winchesters. The catch?

Her cramped attic bedroom locks from the outside, Nina Winchester blows hot and cold in the most unsettling way, and nothing behind that glossy front door is what it seems. If you’ve somehow not read this yet, cancel your evening plans.

My thoughts: The Housemaid was actually the first thriller I ever read. I put it off for a long time, and it was just stting there on my shelf staring at me. But then one day I just felt this NEED to read it, and I freaking devoured this story. This is one of those books I will happily recommend to anyone. The plot, the characters, the suspense, everything is just packed so well, it’s one of those books that never leaves your mind. So if you’re reading this, and you have yet to pick up this book, this is your sign to read it!!!

3. Ward D

A med student. Her final overnight rotation. One night in the hospital’s locked psychiatric ward, how bad could it be? Bad, darlings. Very bad.

The doors seal shut behind her, the patients are deeply unnerving, and as the hours crawl by she starts to lose her grip on who in that ward is actually sane… including herself. Claustrophobic in the best, sweatiest-palms way.

My thoughts: Okay this was one of the most TERRIFYING books I have ever read. Call me dramatic, but I literally had a lil anxiety attack while reading this at night lol. Any sort of book with a psych ward setting I know will freak me out. I was on the furthest edge of my seat during this entire book! You guys, this book freaked me out so badly I literally had a nightmare about it… This is not me trying to put you off, in fact, I am encouraging you to read this if you’re looking for a gripping, page turner of a read!

4. Never Lie

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan get snowed in at a remote mansion they’re house-hunting, completely cut off from the world. The delicious little detail?

The house belonged to a famous therapist who vanished without a trace, and Tricia discovers her old session tapes hidden away inside. Reader, she presses play. Of course she does. I would too.

My thoughts: I loved Never Lie. I really did not see the plot twist coming. I was gripped straight from the beginning. This story has a creepy house, and old patient session tapes from the previous owner who was a therapist who disappeared… I mean if that doesn’t sell you on it, I don’t know what will.

5. The Boyfriend

Sydney’s dating life in New York is an absolute catalogue of horrors, until she finally meets The One. Charming, handsome, a doctor, the whole package. Meanwhile, a killer is quietly working his way through the city’s women, dating them before he strikes.

Surely her perfect man couldn’t possibly be… no. Right? Right? A wickedly fun “is-he-or-isn’t-he” that had me side-eyeing every man alive.

My thoughts: This genuinely put me off dating for a while. This book was a wild time. The plot twists were SPECTACULAR. Honestly, the more thrillers I read, the less I trust people. Obviously I know it’s fiction, but these books are so good they just have a way of getting in your head… I’m definitely being a lil dramatic right now, but regardless, read this book it will not disappoint!

6. The Tenant

Blake had the dream, the big job, the gorgeous fiancée, the covetable Manhattan brownstone, right up until it all came crashing down and he had to take in a tenant to keep the lights on. She seems perfectly lovely.

She is not perfectly lovely. What follows is a spiral of gaslighting, escalating chaos and questionable choices, told from a male point of view. Messy in the way I deeply respect.

My thoughts: I found this book to be FREAKING GRIPPING. Whatever you’re thinking while reading this book, think again, and then some. I’m a sucker for a good domestic thriller, and this scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had (sorry TMI). Long story short, we have a couple, who rent out one of their rooms to a woman, but the main character starts noticing weird things happening in his home, and questions what role this new tenant might have in these occurences…

7. The Intruder

Casey’s isolated cabin is barely holding together against a monster of a storm when she spots a young girl outside in the dark, alone, silent, covered in blood, and gripping a knife she will not let go of.

There’s someone at your door, darlings. Do you let her in? A tense, trapped-in-one-place slow burn that tightens with every single chapter.

My thoughts: I’m going to be honest. I found most of this book to just be”okay”, until I got to around 70% in, and then it was just TWIST and TWIST. The ending really did increase my rating of this book, I just wish the first half of the story was a little more gripping.

8. Dear Debbie

Debbie is the beloved advice columnist every wife in New England writes to when she’s ignored, belittled, or worse. Then Debbie loses her job, starts to suspect her own husband is keeping secrets, and decides she is officially done being the bigger person.

This one is pure “good for her” energy, a gleefully unhinged revenge thriller with a heroine you’ll be cheering for even when you probably shouldn’t.

My thoughts: I had higher hopes from this book. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed it, but it was lacking some thrill. Loved the plot, loved the main character, but not gripping enough for me to be ranked high on this list.

9. The Surrogate Mother

Abby wants a baby more than anything in the world, and after years of heartbreak, her devoted assistant Monica makes the most generous offer imaginable: she’ll be their surrogate. Dream come true!

Except Monica isn’t quite the saint everyone insists she is, and the closer that baby gets, the more the ground shifts under Abby’s feet. One of Freida’s early gems, and the blueprint for so much of what makes her books so unputdownable.

My thoughts: Long story short, the main character is infertile, so her assistant offers to be her surrogate, but then the assistant starts showing odd behaviour, and we discover how easily bad intentions can be disguised as good ones…

10. The Divorce

Naomi comes home one ordinary afternoon to find the locks changed, the accounts drained, and her husband on the doorstep asking for a divorce, with a beautiful younger girlfriend already waiting in the wings.

But instead of walking away quietly, Naomi becomes utterly fixated on the other woman, and starts digging into secrets that put her in far more danger than she bargained for. Freida’s most recent, and a proper rug-puller.

My thoughts: This was my most recent Freida McFadden read! Don’t get me wrong, just because I ranked it last, doesn’t mean I dislike it. I just didn’t feel the suspense and thrill that I felt reading the higher rated books. I did enjoy the plot, I just felt like something was missing.

I hope you enjoyed my quick Freida McFadden book ranking! Which Freida thriller is your favourite? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks darlings 🙂
