1. Speak the Language (Bookish Acronyms)
Before you dive into the comments, you need to know the code. BookTok has its own vocabulary, and missing a definition can change your entire reading experience.

- CR – Currently Reading is the book (or books, let’s be honest) you’re reading right now.

- NRN – Not Right Now
- DRC – A digital review copy
- ARC – Advanced Reader Copy is a pre-publication copy of a book sent to reviewers, bloggers, and influencers before the official release date.

We don’t do “one size fits all” here. The BookTok baddies tend to categorize books by heat so you’re never caught off guard (unless you want to be).
- Sweet (🌶️): Little to no spice. Focuses on the emotional connection.
- Simmering (🌶️🌶️): On-page tension with one or two descriptive scenes.
- Steamy (🌶️🌶️🌶️): Multiple explicit scenes that drive the plot forward.
- Scorching (🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️): High heat, frequent explicit content.
- Nuclear (🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️): Dark romance and extreme spice.
