Quicksilver — Callie Hart (In Development, 2027 or Later)

The one the fantasy romance community has been screaming about since the announcement dropped. Netflix won the rights to adapt Callie Hart’s novel Quicksilver in a seven-figure deal, with Hart herself signing on as executive producer. As of late 2025, a script has been written and the team is now focused on securing a director before casting begins. Given that the film is still in early stages, a late 2027 or 2028 release is the most likely timeline.

Synopsis: Quicksilver by Callie Hart follows Saeris Fane, a desperate thief in a harsh desert city who accidentally activates a magical quicksilver portal while fleeing execution. She is transported to a frozen fae realm, where she discovers she has rare alchemical powers that make her both valuable and dangerous. Still to Come: Happy Place, Funny Story & This Summer Will Be Different

Three more adaptations worth keeping an eye on. Netflix announced that both Funny Story and Happy Place will be developed as films, with Emily Henry writing both scripts herself. Happy Place follows a formerly perfect couple who secretly broke up five months ago but find themselves sharing a bedroom at their friend group’s beloved Maine beach house, forced to keep lying to everyone they love. Funny Story follows a children’s librarian who moves in with her ex-fiancé’s ex after being dumped, and hatches a fake-dating scheme ahead of the wedding. No release dates yet for either.

And finally, Netflix has ordered a 10-episode series based on Carley Fortune’s 2024 bestseller This Summer Will Be Different, filming in Prince Edward Island and Toronto, with Fortune herself executive producing. A 2027 debut is anticipated based on current development timelines.
