Whether you prefer a slow-burning tension with no explicit scenes or you want all the heat with no limits, our five-level spice scale helps you find books that match your comfort level.Here’s how it works:

Clean 🤍

No sexual content at all. The romance is built entirely on emotional tension, longing glances, and the thrill of almost. These books focus on the connection between characters without any on-page intimacy. Perfect if you love the butterflies without the bedroom scenes.

Sweet 🌸

The chemistry is there and things get warm, but the door closes before anything explicit happens. You might get a passionate kiss or a fade-to-black moment, but the details are left to your imagination. Great for readers who want romance with a softer touch.

Warm 🔥

The door is open. These books include on-page intimacy that’s tastefully written without being overly graphic. You’ll get enough detail to feel the heat between characters, but it’s balanced with the rest of the story. A solid middle ground for readers who enjoy some steam with their plot.

Spicy 🌶️

Things get explicit and it happens more than once. These books feature detailed, frequent intimate scenes that are a core part of the story and the characters’ relationship. If you’re here for the tension and the payoff, this is your level.

Very Spicy 🌶️🌶️

No limits, no fading to black, and absolutely no holding back. These books feature the most graphic and frequent intimate content, often exploring kinks, power dynamics, and intense physical chemistry. If you want books that make you fan yourself on public transport, this is where you want to be.

How do I filter by spice level?

On any book list page, use the “All spice levels” dropdown to filter books by your preferred heat level. You can also select your spice preference in our personalized book recommendation quiz, and we’ll only recommend books that match.

Where do I see a book’s spice level?

Every book card shows a spice badge on the cover image (Clean, Sweet, Warm, Spicy, or Very Spicy). On individual book pages, you’ll also see a chilli pepper meter showing the exact level.

A quick note: spice ratings are based on our own reading and assessment. Everyone’s tolerance is different, so a book we rate as Warm might feel Spicy to some readers and vice versa. When in doubt, check reader reviews on the book’s page for more context.
