Hey there darlings! Now this book just HAD to be reviewed because it took me through a rollercoaster of emotions. I have had this book on my TBR for over a year. For some reason it never really called to me, until book 2 released recently and people have BEEN raving about it online. So yes, I had FOMO.
What Is When The Moon Hatched About?

Synopsis: The Creators did not expect their beloved dragons to sail skyward upon their end. To curl into balls just beyond gravity’s grip, littering the sky with tombstones. With moons. They certainly did not expect them to FALL.
As a deadly assassin for the rebellion group Fíur du Ath, Raeve’s job is to complete orders and never get caught. When a rival bounty hunter turns her world upside down, blood spills, hearts break, and Raeve finds herself imprisoned by the Guild of Nobles—a group of powerful fae who turn her into a political statement.
Crushed by the loss of his great love, the grieving fae king Kaan Vaegor took the head of a king and donned his melted crown. Now on a tireless quest to quell the never-ebbing ache in his chest, he is lured by a clue into the capitol’s high-security prison where he stumbles upon the imprisoned Raeve …
Echoes of the past race between them.
There’s more to their story than meets the eye, but with dark fantasy elements woven through their tale, some truths are too poisonous to swallow.

My Review (Spoilers!)
Going into this book I had no idea what to expect. I will be honest, the first 20% I was a little bored. It took me some time to really get into it, but then once things started making sense, I couldn’t put the book down.
I love Raeve, in some ways she reminded me of Aelin from Throne of Glass. They both have the same resilience, and strength. And they both have that cheeky, honest kind of humour that I loved. At times, there were moments I felt like I could connect with Raeve on an emotional level. Her need to hold everything inside, with the fear of acknowledging and accepting her traumas definitely hit home, and it’s something many of us can relate to.
Kaan Vaegor is husband material. He is THE man of my dreams. I have added him to my book boyfriends list. The yearning from this man was excruciatingly heart-breaking. Get you a man who yearns over 100 years for you!!!!!!!!!!
Getting to that plot twist, where we discover Raeve’s true identiy, shattered me. You guys. I had to drop my kindle on the bed for a minute because I could not believe what I read. And it made it that much more heartbreaking when I stared connecting the dots with her family and little key things Kaan mentions….
Raeve spent half of the book threatening to kill Kaan, and I was just like, girl, you have a tall, sexy warrior saving you and yearning for you, give him a break 😭😭😭
I loved the world building in this story. I loved how the moons are dragons that shoot up to the sky to die, and curl up into the shape of a moon. Whenever I look up at the moon now I’m just going to picture a beautiful silver dragon curled up in itself🥺 I’m also curious to learn more about some of the secondary characters such as Veya and ARKYN…….
Talking about Arkyn… I’m hoping book 2 will reveal more about this interesting character who popped up in the epilogue. And don’t get me started on Kyzari… UTTERLY DUMBFOUNDED…
Bring on book 2!
My Favourite Quotes:
“You can reshape a turd an infinite number of times, but it’s still a turd”
“Say it again…” “What?” “My name, Moonbeam. Say it again”
Failing to muster any more words to wield, I poke my tongue out at him instead. He returns the gesture, and the corner of my mouth threatens to lift.
“No. I’m fucking obsessed”
“Any lost opportunity to worship you is a tragedy”
My Rating: 5/5 ⭐
